Democrat-run Los Angeles County is experiencing a record breaking surge in a medieval disease known as flea-borne typhus, and the policies of the liberal party are to blame.
That’s according to columnist Susan Shelley, who appeared on the Steve Hilton Show to say the disease is carried by fleas on rats and that nine out of ten people who contract it are ending up in the hospital — Hilton is running for governor as a Republican.
Shelley, a member of the Southern California News Group editorial board, noted that local leaders are refusing to enforce the anti-camping ordinance, allowing the homeless population to live on sidewalks. She also highlighted the unprecedented amounts of garbage piling up in the streets and the state’s ban on certain rat control products.

This isn’t something to take lightly, 90% of cases are requiring hospitalization

Responding to a rise in flea-borne typhus cases in L.A. County, infectious disease experts at Cedars-Sinai are urging residents to closely monitor flu-like symptoms and take precautions to reduce their risk of infection.
“If you have pets that spend time outdoors, it’s important to take steps to prevent fleas, such as using flea control products,” said Jonathan Grein, MD, director of Hospital Epidemiology and associate professor in the Department of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai. “Typhus is not usually life-threatening, but if it’s untreated, it can result in severe illness.”
The disease primarily circulates among rats, opossums and stray cats, according to Cedars-Sinai, which said fleas that feed on these animals can become infected and then transmit the bacteria to humans through flea bites and flea feces—which enter the body through small breaks in the skin or when rubbed into the eyes. It is not spread from person to person.
Despite all the challenges, Democrats keep getting elected to office, in large part due to a serious lack of critical thinking amongst the population.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
The Left is a disease.

California has OFFICIALLY become a third world country!
Yes, I know that it has been heading in that direction for decades but now, a third world flea borne Typhus, yes TYPHUS is spreading in LA.
Even though we think of it as a disease that occurred in or before the early… pic.twitter.com/j3Qz2ramAf

As with animal abuse codes, No health code standards are imposed in LA out of compassion for the homeless drug addicts. They are waiting for a pandemic before they do anything. TB is back, measles is back, what next Typhoid? When the city’s an open sewer and pple sht on the side…

Import 3rd world, get 3rd world. Thanks to the WORST leadership under @KarenBassLA. Add in Skid Row, unchecked homelessness & the ability to dump trash anywhere without any consequences & voilà you get typhus, measles, monkey pox & more. California needs new leadership.
