Democrat policies face scrutiny as medieval disease surges in LA County

Democrat-run Los Angeles County is experiencing a record breaking surge in a medieval disease known as flea-borne typhus, and the policies of the liberal party are to blame.

That’s according to columnist Susan Shelley, who appeared on the Steve Hilton Show to say the disease is carried by fleas on rats and that nine out of ten people who contract it are ending up in the hospital — Hilton is running for governor as a Republican.

Shelley, a member of the Southern California News Group editorial board, noted that local leaders are refusing to enforce the anti-camping ordinance, allowing the homeless population to live on sidewalks. She also highlighted the unprecedented amounts of garbage piling up in the streets and the state’s ban on certain rat control products.

Responding to a rise in flea-borne typhus cases in L.A. County, infectious disease experts at Cedars-Sinai are urging residents to closely monitor flu-like symptoms and take precautions to reduce their risk of infection.

“If you have pets that spend time outdoors, it’s important to take steps to prevent fleas, such as using flea control products,” said Jonathan Grein, MD, director of Hospital Epidemiology and associate professor in the Department of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai. “Typhus is not usually life-threatening, but if it’s untreated, it can result in severe illness.”

The disease primarily circulates among rats, opossums and stray cats, according to Cedars-Sinai, which said fleas that feed on these animals can become infected and then transmit the bacteria to humans through flea bites and flea feces—which enter the body through small breaks in the skin or when rubbed into the eyes. It is not spread from person to person.

Despite all the challenges, Democrats keep getting elected to office, in large part due to a serious lack of critical thinking amongst the population.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
